Tarot

Tarot is a deck of 78 cards, divisible into twenty two trump cards, sixteen court cards, and forty small, or pip cards. The court cards can be further subdivided into four knights, four queens, four princes, and four princesses. The small cards also subdivide, into groups of ten within the suits wands, cups, swords, and disks. Not to suggest other arrangements are somehow invalid, but entries on this list are specific to Thelemic Spiritism and we take the Thoth deck as a base or standard.

A great deal of symbolism has been attached to Tarot over the last century and a half, making it an excellent symbol set. Cards are used for rituals or meditations, but are most often used for readings. There is a division to be made between Tarot readings and cartomancy, as it loses efficacy when taken to be prognosticatory. Whether there is a supernatural element or no, we can see the value viz. self-analysis and reflection.
